Some of the castle is actually built from pieces of cathedrals, churches and monasteries from Europe. These pieces were dismantled in Europe, shipped to th Hearst castle and rebuilt/incorporated into the design of the castle. While it is a palace/castle that is not the major draw of tourism to it.

It is also a museum of amazing art of all kinds. The buildings, rooms, architecture, and more is all a work of art and the rooms and grounds are full with an amazing and carefully chosen array of rare and beautiful works of art. While this all was a private residence for Hearst, and he threw lots of parties here it is now considered to be quite a remarkable museum.
