Chateau Gaillard

Although now a ruins at the time of its building it was an architectural marvel and it incorporated many of the modern architectural fortress features that had been learned during Richard's excursions into the Middle East for the crusades. These features includes a series of round towers that were very advantageous in their strength against siege engies and machicolations that could be used to drop projectiles on attackers.
