Chateau de Pierrefonds

The original structure was built in the 12th century. It was rebuilt in the 14 century and partially destroyed after a siege in the 16th century. It was rebuilt in the style of a 14th century medieval fortress in the 19th century.

At one point the castle (ruins at the time) was owned by Napoleon Bonaparte. He purchased it for 3,000 Francs.

It is considered to be a re-imagining of what a medieval castle was like in the middle ages. This rebuilding was overseen by Eugene Violett le Duc and being a re-imagining it didn't stay true to those fortresses. It has many upgrades and Gothic influences.
